Stab and It's Ridiculousness

Post by Anthrax »

I was in Gatekeep today, four or something humans running around with us trolls, and I go for a stab on Chase at well, bricked with a poniard(highest landing non-unique/rare that does decent damage, or so I thought anyway), so I say GD, lucky bastage. Five minutes later maybe, I do the same thing, try a stab on chase at well, BRICK. Seriously?? Stab landing rate needs some serious uppage, it is once in a purple balloon that I actually FINISH a stab timer, and if that's the case, missing is just ridiculous. I realize stab has the potential to do a great amount of damage, but really, it is the hardest timer to pull off on the mud, lemme land!

Here are my suggestions to fixing stab:

-Make the timer three pulses shorter

-Increase landing rate by ALOT

-Damage is fine, don't think it needs to be changed

-Make 99% notice not SEE EVERYTHING (This is probably one of the lamest mechanics of the game, because with 99% notice, a basher can spam bash at a gate or something while the stabber thinks he is getting his stab. But he would probably brick anyway so whatever)

-Some or all of these changes would be great for stab, as is, with 18 str 18 int 19 dex 19 con, I can't afford to get my stab pracs *great*, get 99 notice, track for autotrack, 1 survival, 93% shield parry....AND the thief melee skills. The melee skills are alright, but they really aren't that affordable unless you don't want stab...

I just did test rolls for backstab for a certain human thief against several players who were online at the time. His landing rates ranged from 70-75% against everyone who was on, using a dagger that does not have the highest landing rate. Backstab landing rate is fine.

Here is how I calculate stab. When you are actually pking, you probably have 5% chance of finishing a timer, if that. Take that, multiply by your 75% and you get this number: 3.75%.

5% is completely made up, and as such, your end number is meaningless.

Regardless of the number I 'make up' it will still make 70-75% lower, thus proving stab could use a boost. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with actual landing rate, but the ability to get a stab off is more the issue. Thus a slight shortening of timer or adjusting of notice rolls would be nice.

Well, there is a variable you're leaving out. It's called the "skill" variable. Some people are good at getting stabs off, some aren't. 70-75% landing rate is quite high already, and with the ability to start stabs on engaged targets, stabbing is relatively easy. Don't ask for the game mechanics to make up for human error.

It's 'your' end number unless Anthrax himself is the end number which I highly doubt.

That'll be all.
