Web Client

Post by Galnor »

As I posted a few months ago, we have our own custom MUD client on the website located here.

Crunch did a super quick mockup of additions to be added. I'd be interested to see if people can think of changes to be made. Also interested to see if people have ideas for how the mapper could work. It's a complex issue when trying to write an algorithm to draw a map when dealing with things like loop rooms or rooms that don't quite line up.

Well to make it competitive with other top end clients it needs of course variable, triggers, aliasses but also the ability to use loops, expressions and string functions.

nested loops ftw!

I'm hoping it will be possible. The client is in JavaScript. In theory we could allow people to write code in JavaScript for things like triggers and aliases. We just need to make sure that errors in those scripts don't break the page.

add delay to the first three, it's a handy command.

I have nfc about mapping, alclient mapper never worked on this mud for some weird reason so I memorized spams and even made a map using excel years ago. What about fixing the messed up rooms in the game that might freak the mapper out?

I'd love to see an in game map that players could toggle on or off, I've seen several muds with them and they seriously help attract new players.

Any chance you know or know of Hephos? He's popular on mudconnect and he was the owner of Sharune, he made such an epic java client with mapper for sharune.

It's not a mapper we need, it's more of a way to draw and scale a map automatically when given a series of rooms from the game. Mappers let you move the rooms around. This would have to figure it all out itself.

I'm going to pretend like I understood what you just said, what if we concentrate more on individual zone maps or even somewhat how sharune had it, inside cities a nice mapper appeared but out in the wilderness the map is more vague.

I thought the mud had x, y, z coordinates for mapping?

Zones have X & Y coordinates, not individual rooms.

Remove the loop rooms from the MUD, easiest solution.

I agree Crunch, players can be inconvenienced if something cool comes out of it!

Loops rooms aren't the only problem. Rooms that don't line up are also an issue.
