Throwing knifes

Post by Solare »

are completely rediculously overpowered.. They ignore defense and abs and just shred everyone.. rogues can sit at gates and just spam throw and eat you alive and you cant do a thing about it..can someone please take a gander at them?

Can you mail me a log showing an example?

Also, what DB do you have? They take into effect DB and abs %, and have a chance to miss inherently as well.

I'll look into the exact calculations again, and will probably be updating things a bit in the future.

If anyone can log and experience unbalanced projectiles in the future, mail me the log please.

from what ive seen abs means nothing to them, and they stop all timers.

a quick note about projectiles. In order to do them right and get the max benefit you must practice both projectiles and critical hit. This is very costly I assure you. Even though it is costly if you practice both of them to a high level then you will have better results and this is how it should be. Also you should note that knifes are temporary weapons that can be broken on impact and can be stolen each time they are used.

and there are some serious down sides to them. There are timers associated with them. These times can (and will) get you killed because during these timers you cannot do anything like flee or even wield your primary weapon until the timer has expired... They also lower your defense while using them leaving you open to all sorts of hits (unbashed). This alone has caused me to rip on a few occasions.

solare, i can understand your concerns, but there are a few things that asylum mentioned that i'd like to restate because they're really essential points that you might miss if you aren't a thief using projectiles.

1. effective use requires a high % in both projectiles and critical hit. if someone is doing a lot of damage to you with projectiles, it means that he or she is severely lacking in other skills that were sacrificed in order to get high % on those two.

2. the lack of defense while throwing - can't overstate it. you aren't wielding your primary weapon, which takes your defense down to levels that aren't worth mentioning.
rogues can sit at gates and just spam throw
... with really low defense, we're making the decision to take some really hard hits, probably eat bashes if there's a basher present, in return for the lowering of your hps. we're probably losing hps almost as much as you are. we're thieves with no abs, with no defense, getting hit by gate mobs.

so we thieves would appreciate you taking all that into account... yes, projectiles can do a lot of damage given the correct circumstances, but we pay a big price to use them effectively... and it's not like we can really do too much in melee circumstances to begin with.

one thing that i noticed, that i forgot to mention, imms - if you start the throw sequence before you get bashed, you eat a bash, you still throw the projectile.

This has been fixed with the new updates to Projectiles.
