Notice turning itself off

I was just wondering why notice turns itself off? Ive eaten several stabs during long fights because my notice just turns off. I know a smart person would just check every once and a while but I have to concentrate my limited brain power on fighting.

Anyways just thought I would ask.

I believe that is the reason. It gives the thief the possibility to succeed. It stays on for a rather long time in the scale of other spells. If you never had to check notice you would just have to sit in a room with a kill trigger going 24/7.
