How do we get EQ?

Maybe im just on at weird times, but in the three days I have been playing I have only ever met myself, Jack, and Quinton.

Quinton and I tried to hit a couple smobs, and failed. So I'm just curious with so few people... HTF do we get new eq into the game? I really dont want to just kill someone and loot their whole kit without bringing some eq into they game myself first...
