Rapport

Post by Trin »

I was thinking of some innovative ideas that could be implemented. I call it 'Rapport'

Pretty much the idea is that you can make a rapport with someone. The ups to this would be: At higher ranks they could even get bonuses while fighting such as more ob together, blocking blows for the other guy(taking blows if abs) or getting an extra between round attack on the person that is attacking your grouped partner.

The downside of this would be is that it would only work when in the same room with each other grouped and noone else in group with you. Also it would take a lot of effort to get high enough rapport. You'd have to have the same playtime and style of pk as the other person and work well together. You could only have one rapport for one character so if one person quit/went away/etc. you wouldn't get another rapport person(couldn't have that well of a relationship with 2 people). Also when you died your rapport would go down drastically.

I imagine this being completely passive.

Where I got the idea: Drizzt's books The lone drow trilogy there's 2 elves that work in complete harmony of each other and are a walking deathtrap.

RP justification: well the AS/warder pairs have good harmony but this would be available to everyone and could actually be made into a good prereq when channelers and gaidin are imped: they have to have a certain amount of rapport with each other for being able to bond each other.

Why it should be implemented: It's a nice idea that I haven't seen on any other mud. a group duo system that would be nice to say 'I have this and it's 100% unique'

I don't really see you guys on at the same time. You have to be grouped in the same room for you to get the benefits of it. Plus I expect rapport to go up like a +1 per round on a pc. Since neither of you really melee a ton you wouldn't get really high of rapport compared to other people.

Not really aj. I don't even remember the bonuses of bonding but I don't think they have anything to do with the bonuses of rapport that I've said. Plus this would be open to everyone not just channelers.

It'd be something like this

You try to slash *Aj*'s shoulder, but he dodges the attack.
*Aj* tries to pierce your arms, but you parry the attack.
*Kroynyal* blasts Chase's shoulder into bloody fragments.

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>

You try to slash *Aj*'s head, but he dodges the attack.
*Aj* tries to pierce your feet, but you parry the attack.
*Kroynyal* tries to blast Chase's arms, but you parry the attack.

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>

You try to slash *Aj*'s legs, but he dodges the attack.
*Aj* tries to pierce your body, but you parry the attack.

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>
Chase avoids being bashed by *Kroynyal* who loses his balance and falls!
Chase sends *Kroynyal* sprawling with a powerful bash!

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>

You redirect your attack to Kroynyal.
You slash *Kroynyal*'s body very hard.

*Aj* tries to pierce your body, but you parry the attack.
Chase pounds *Kroynyal*'s feet hard.

Now it wouldn't happen that often but at higher levels it could come in handy. It'd be a completely passive skill, making it so you might lose a kill because of it or get killed because of it.

This is where I got it from:
Standing side by side, Tarathiel and Innovindil brought their weapons up in a flowing cross before their chests, rising past their faces and going out at the ready to either side, so that Tarathiel's right arm crossed against Innovindil's left, forearm to forearm. They held that touch as they went out against the charge, moving as if they were one, flowing back and forth and turning as they went, Tarathiel crossing, behind Innovindil, coming around to the female's right and shifting past, so that they were touching right forearm to right forearm, right foot to right foot, heel against toe.
Not understanding the level of the joining, an orc rushed in at Tarathiel's exposted back, only to find Innovindil's blade waiting for it, turning his spear aside with ease. Innovindil didn't finish the move, though, but rather went back to an orc that was still off-balance from Pikel's bomb barrage. The elf slid the blade easily through the orc's exposed ribs as it stumpled past. She didn't have to finish that move either, for Tarathiel had understood everything she had accomplished in the parry as surely as if he had done the movement himself. He just reversed his grip on the dirk in his left hand, and while still parrying the blade of the orc he was fighting before him with his sword, he thrust out hard behind, stabbing the attacking spear wielder in the chest.

I remember Axxey posting somewhere else, probably on old forums, that he really thinks there is absolutely no need for additional passive skills.

I agree 100% with no more passive skills.

Maybe if they were not combat related, but possibly when you typed where it would give an extra little info on where your person is in a small zone difference or something like that, then maybe.

I really don't see the need to make any characters stronger than they already are by anything passive.

It'd be way too powerful active. Unless you made it active with maluses if you messed up(i.e. lag/etc.) and the more your rapport goes up the less you mess up.

You try to slash *Aj*'s shoulder, but he dodges the attack.
*Aj* tries to pierce your arms, but you parry the attack.
*Kroynyal* blasts Chase's shoulder into bloody fragments.

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded> defend chase
You begin to defense chase.
+ - ~ * +

*Aj* tries to pierce your feet, but you parry the attack.
You step in front of Chase prepared to die for him.

You begin to redirect your attack on Kroynyal.
+ - / = - =+

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>
You try to redirect your attack to *Kroynyal but stumble and fall over yourself.(gets bashed for 1 round if failed)

HP:Scratched MV:Fresh - Aj: Wounded>

*Aj* pierces your body very hard.
*Aj* pierces your legs hard.
Chase pounds *Kroynyal*'s feet hard.

Definately like the timers better. :P

The timers would be cool if they were just skills, but the idea presented of having a character with which you work very well with is more attractive to me.

Consider, for a moment, two RP brothers having grown up together know eachother and their movements and signals well, thus when fighting together they get a small perk. It only works when Brother A and Brother B are the only two people in the group, and they must be in the same room.

I think it would be a good 'unique' feature to the MUD, it isnt over powering because it requires only one other person to gain the benefits, and it would take a decent amount of time to establish.

Have the perks be skill too, but when dealing with your Rapport-mate, have them be timerless and fairly random..

think about it, it could be very very neat.

Yea the timers and stuff would only work with your rapport buddy if you tried to work with it not with your rapport buddy it'd happen like something like...

You attempt to defend Chase...
~ % + - + %

You attempt to defend Chase but just get in his way!
Chase pounds your body into bloody fragments!

i like it...can be used for people who arent that skilled at pk to join in, learn from better pkers, and get rewards for it. Say a friend is good at pk but you're relatively new, same play time, go out pk with that friend, learn the ropes of pk and get more rapport levels.

Only problem is stabbers, it'd be close to useless for stabbers to use it, seeing that they stab and dont melee much. For absers and dodgey/combo rangers it'd be great. Another problem is the lack of playerbase. Most times of the day when i log on, there's noone else on, and if there is, it's lowbies or people who dont pk. Meaning it'd be useless to have this if there's noone to fight...

i like the idea. i would like to see it imped, would level the playing field a bit when channies/gaidin are imped.

stabbers could group with bashers and gain rapport levels and hurt people when bashed.

The only problem I can see is channelers grouping with bashers and gaining rapport out of it. To stop this, I have sugested only one rapport buddy. So that'd screw a channeler over if say Trin and Sophia made a rapport and than Trin joined borderguards and not gaidin, and Sophia became an aes sedai and couldn't get a gaidin because there was a req. of a certain amount of rapport with a gaidin.

or just make rapport completely different from bond/channelers at all, and then channelers can have their thing and everyone else can have rapport

maybe for thieves, if two thieves group and decide to go for rapport, then if they build it up enough, they'll start noticing stabs for each other, or even taking stabs for each other.

I really like this idea of sharing skills.. perhaps one could be the Notice guy and one could be the Tracking guy.. Things like that could be really cool, if you always had someone to watch your back you could concern yourself with being better at tracking. Makes good RP sense.

back to the channies, make it so channies cannot gain rapport if clanned into the tower, same for gaidin when clanned....just some ideas...or they just lose it all once clanned....

What do you mean Lazarus one be the notice guy one be the tracking guy? :P Even if someone was to have notice for you you'd still have to have notice yourself because you aren't going to be with them 100% of the time.

The 1 rapport buddy would be, imo, easier to code than not allowing channelers or certain clans to not get it. That way channelers would be subjected to either making a rapport with their gaidin or not having a gaidin later on down the line.

EDIT: unless....you made this as a sort of clan bonus. for all clans but you can only have a rapport within your clan...but i don't like that idea it'd restrict it too much. Not everyone is going to be in a clan and say there's 2 people per clan(which how it's looking now I think is about right where it's giong to cap if people don't start playing more) those 2 people would have to go well together and have same playtime and other things.

I'd personally like rapport with a horse.

Don't really see the point in 2 characters getting it.

But if humans could get to know their horses better, and actually name them and yadda yadda, they could eventually gain more increased regen/max mvs/hps etc on the pony.

Of course the horse wouldn't fight, but it would be more of a reason to ride just one horse, keep up with the horse.

Also, the % effectiveness with your horse would go down if you rode other horses(remounts in pk), and other things like that.

Add in horse eq(possible armor for the horse, mvs trinks etc) and you can actually get some good stuff going with a specific horse.

Naturally all this would end when a trolloc kills it, thus the horse would be of much more value to the human.
