I just wanted to point out that it's really discouraging when someone (like myself) spends a lot of time on this game, and I've met more people that use terrible language towards other players, insult players, and just make it not so fun to play anymore. I understand this is only a game, but at the same time, it is a game based on the Wheel of Time--which many people like to forget--and if we want to run around and make this game a complete crap show, then why bother basing it on ANYTHING.

I'm just starting to lose my patience when I log on and I'm treated like a piece of garbage. Today, I asked Norum what weapon he is and he basically freaked out on me....why? What is the reason behind all of you being so cruel to one another.

You do realize this game has a very low playerbase that is just going to get smaller as many of us, like myself, have decided it's probably best to play the other MUD that I originally started on, rather than come on here and be mistreated.

I've tried. I really did....but I just don't know if I can play amongst you all anymore.

Not knowing that I use all caps and fkn quite often I can see why you'd perhaps think I'm yelling. The telling people to clam down and calling them a kid is insulting, and the way in which I responded to someone being condescending and insulting I think was reasonable. I'm going to chalk this up for a misunderstanding and hope you'll see it that way too.

A lot of us older players use some weird terminology that could be construed as insulting when it is not meant to as such.

You're missing the point--it's not just you Norum...there is a large majority of you around here that just enjoy mistreating people and using language that is just insulting.

How often do I try to interject with a joke or comment when you all start using the word "faggot, or gay," and I'm sorry but trying to get around by saying "ghey," is just not working.

This is the first time I'm making a big stink about it, because I had hopes of sticking around and enjoying this MUD, I really did. But since nothing is going to change, instead of putting myself in this type of environment, I will just take my leave of the game and go back to how things were prior to coming to Kinslayer.

To those of you who made it fun, thank you--it's just unfortunate that there are so few of you.

Not saying that you're wrong, just saying that the way I responded has been a way that a lot of people talk here. It isn't meant to be insulting or angry. Going from you thinking it meant angry or insulting, then your comments which were antagonistic and condescending, and myself responding in kind resulted in a misunderstanding. If you don't like all caps then I won't speak to you in all caps. I can't know your preferences before they're made known.

If you haven't played here much then I could understand why that wouldn't be known. It's similar to how you might act differently with close friends than with strangers out in public. And for some of us we've been playing this game for 5+ years so there is a degree of friendship going on.

And for some of us we've been playing this game for 5+ years so there is a degree of friendship going on.

This is huge.

While it's true that a lot of us interact with each other informally, Verna makes a good point regarding players who are new to the game. Let's all try to treat people we don't know with a little more respect. Part of the reason we can't retain players very well is because of exactly what Verna is trying to say. That said, the respect needs to work both ways.

But yeah, I have to agree with him. Even though he quite often is a total asshat (as are many of us) MOST of the time when we talk like that it is not at all meant in an angry, insulting or otherwise ill intentioned manner. We've been here a long time and we tend to forget that not everyone has been, and that those people won't necessarily understand the reasoning behind why we talk like that to each other.

I am sorry you misunderstood Verna. I would like you to stay, and if I can do anything that would encourage that then I will.

I came within an inch of banning Norum earlier as an instinctual reaction to this, but ultimately he is right. We're a little looser with strong language around here and I think(well, I know) that he was not trying to be offensive with his "FKN SPEAR" comment. It's just typical zany behavior and really it could have come from just about anyone.

That said, people should be considerate of newer players who may not be as accustomed to the atmosphere of the game. Norum could have and should have handled the situation far better by not reacting to Verna's reaction. As for whether we immortals should mandate that strong language not be thrown around as loosely as it is, well, that's something we can discuss.

Reacting negatively to a situation or comment that is bound to illicit a negative response is simply human, doesn't matter how long one has played a text based game, we are all still human although some of us need to learn to stfu sometimes *points at self*

Yea, I'll admit it seems kinda ridiculous if we take a step back. When we use "fkn" on here it's almost always a complete joke. Now if you spell it out it's being a jerk.

Anyway, in relation to my own "HA! gheeey!" comments or whatever which weren't directed at anyone and I just said them usually after I'd died in PK or whatever. Have you ever seen community? It might provide some context. I also think Kyrana posted some funny video about how the word faggot really gets used in society. My point is, I wouldn't take offense to it unless it was directed at you with negative connotation or at actual homosexuals with negative connotation. Afterall a lot of these words had other meanings and are still used in such ways. Anyway, I'm sure I don't have to go into great detail about it all to you.
