playerbase

Post by Hornet »

ideas as to how to seriously increase playerbase. no strippers, drugs, or other stupid ideas. seriously. This mud is awesome, and I would like to say on behalf of playing wotmud for ten years, I actually see myself staying here now.. it's really cool and really fun. I like the players like nicotine and osbould. Barf. etc. I really would like to see us increase the player base. even if 30 people were on at most times that's still amazing. so lets brainstorm.

Maybe we can talk with mudconnector and do a special with them somehow. Maybe put a link to them on our site and vice versa.

i like. all the reviews on TMS and MC are really old and have little to no bearing on modern-day kinslayer. i wonder if galner could get them to reset everything and update it. if he's interested in doing that i'd write a new description.

THEN if we started getting people in the habit of upvoting the MUD on those sites...

yeah it would be really good to get a heap more people around... this mud has a lot to offer... easy statting, easy leveling, trades, friendly immortals who listen to players ideas, 'most of the time' good pk atmosphere..... there are more obviously but you get the point.....

the problem is the advertisement, i only found out about kinslayer from wotmud forums.... i never noticed it on mud list sites..... we need to get our name out in more places!!!

the other problem is older players being loyal to the game they play, or thinking that it would be to hard to learn another mud...

Yea we should probably scrap our old listing on topmudsites. There were lots of flame reviews :P. And also add links to the voting pages up on the forums.

But I mean. It's 2011. I have tried getting new players on here but it is very hard. I think we need to just get backlinks to the MUD, since we don't have many(just wotmud mainly). Basically any site that is even loosely relevant, like a blog, posting a link here would get us some more hits and higher ranking on Google.

honestly i wouldn't discount the number of folks using TMS and MC, i went on there a month or so ago to try and get an idea of it and people are posting reviews and ratings and all sorts of things all the time.

I think you might get some people from wotmud. Things are going wrong there and it might be even worse soon. It's a bit sad. Unfortunately I don't have much time for any game recently but I hope I will during the summer. :-)

I don't think topmudsites and others based on voting will help since we have too few players to get this on the top. But there might be other ways of advertising. Does kinslayer have a facebook profile? I don't have fb and I don't like it but I am part of a minority. It is a site full of bored people who have time to read things like "peter has just looked out of the window" so they might want to give it a try. Or links at wot sites like dragonmount? This is a fully free game so it might not be that hard to get there. And some fantasy con? A poster placed in the centre of wot fans might work. Of course I do not have experience with the latter two, it might be impossible. Just ideas.

Hrm, Eowyn got me thinking. Would there be any way to integrate the mud into Facebook somehow? For example, automated updates like "Ciarra just got blicked! Come join in the PK!" or something like that?

Edit:

I doubt actually logging into the mud via a facebook client would be possible, right?

Do you guys seriously believe integrating facebook with the mud is going to increase the player base?

We have had zero luck with mudconnect, topmudsite, etc. The advertisement was rather generic on them as well, I was the one that did the advertisement without any other players input due to the mud being dead back then.

Which reminds me do you still have my mudconnect account galnor? I would love to get that back at some point, no rush though.

Even if it wouldn't increase the playerbase, it would get more people active if they saw stuff happening atm, which would be a nice feature imo. For example, I'd be way more likely to log in if I knew there was PK instead of trolling on facebook for a few mins and going to play League of Legends.

My question is do all that many people use websites like facebook and myspace? Personally I cant stand either one, they seem to cater to people that dont have a life and want to blog about what they had for breakfast, what their latest random thought has been, etc.

You could say that before Facebook became the most visited site in 2010 in the US. Myspace is what you're thinking of. Facebook is pretty much the next thing in advertising, which is why you always see the "like this" button everywhere on the internet these days.

I dislike facebook as well and don't use it, but many people do and I believe it could help. Not any integrating, just simply presenting the mud there, letting the word about it's existance spread. It is probably the easiest way since I have no idea how hard it is to convince people from Dragonmount and similar sites to have a link (or a small advertisement) there. It might not be for free either, which Facebook is. Or things like forums about games and fantasy books in general?
