Mining/Smithing
Mining/Smithing
I used to get about 1% of smithing per hour of mining i did (excluding smithing time which is another 15-20 mins), now that i'm up over 50% its reduced to about 1% per 8 hours of mining i do. I expect this ratio to increase further as i gain in skill.
Granted, i afk mine but i propose incentives to make non afk mining much more profitable for smithing purposes.
at my current skill level it costs 14lbs of steel to smith an item, this translates to about 20-30ish iron ore pieces depending on how many smelting attempts i fail.
Currently running around outside the mines is still not as profitable as afk mining. I suggest implementing the command mine @oretype that can only be used on the ore piles that you find while running around. This will give you the ore you want but it will give you no chance to mine multiple times on the same pile. Another change that i think should be made if this is imped: If you were to just mine instead (without the ore type qualifier), you would always get 3 mine attempts and thus, 3 random pieces of ore.
Another idea i had instead of mine @oretype is to imp something like:
mine common = tin/aluminum ( min: 40% mining skill)
mine metal = copper/iron (min: 60% mining skill)
mine precious = silver/gold (min: 80% mining)
mine rare = plat/obsid (min: 90% mining)

Re: Mining/Smithing
I like it, I've pretty much given up smithing/mining because the only way to do it is to set up the bot in the morning and come back in the evening to get anywhere near enough ores to get some % in smithing.
Re: Mining/Smithing
i really hope the cost per item doesn't increase past 14 lbs (i'm on steel atm, 3lbs for tin, 6 for copper, 8 for iron, 14 steel!!, 28 bronze???), which, in my opinion is already excessive given the rarity of silver gold platinum and obsidian. It would be literally months of play time to get smiting up, if that's the case in its current incarnation.
oh, and another suggestion if i may be so bold
.
Would it be possible to display the # of lbs required when purchasing a recipe? that would be fabulous.
edit:
just thought of something else that might work:
instead of selling an item, maybe we can smelt it back down into 1/2 of the cost it took to make it. i.e iron helmet = 8lbs to make
smelting it would give you 4lbs of refined bars back.

Re: Mining/Smithing
Well prepared thoughts and ideas guys. Let me just say that I think it was far better to introduce it harder and revise from there instead of everyone flooding the game with awesome smithed equipment right away.
I'll take a look at the prac increases and follow up with some ideas of my own. In the meantime, keep listing suggestions - we can improve the system all the time.
Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Mining/Smithing
thanks koradin,
you're great!
i think everytime you smelt you should yield some kind of result. having hte material burn off really really sucks.

Re: Mining/Smithing
To be clear, the weight requirement depends on the item you're smithing, not the material you're smithing with.i really hope the cost per item doesn't increase past 14 lbs (i'm on steel atm, 3lbs for tin, 6 for copper, 8 for iron, 14 steel!!, 28 bronze???)

Re: Mining/Smithing
don't like how people are afk botting all day in the mines, making profit, with afk in their title. seems like there should be some risk for the reward.
Re: Mining/Smithing
There's a risk, I've been killed twice and lost all my ores.
Re: Mining/Smithing
Working on it. The addition of scattered mines was an improvement, at least in order to mine/smith effectively at higher skill levels. If you have any suggestions, please add them and we can switch stuff up.Lamgwin wrote:don't like how people are afk botting all day in the mines, making profit, with afk in their title. seems like there should be some risk for the reward.
Re: Mining/Smithing
smithed 2 silver shields, got 1% increase in smithing
smithed 5 more and got 0% increase
bought a breastplate recipe, smithed 3 and got 0% increase
am i broken?

Re: Mining/Smithing
don't think so. in mixing, seems like you can get a % from three items back to back, then get 0% for 8 more. KORADINNNN
Re: Mining/Smithing
As you get into the higher %s (especially above 70%), the chances of you increasing your skill drop substantially.
