This Mud
This Mud
This mud will never be a wotmud nor have their pbase, we have a few dedicated players who have put up with alot for a good while. This mud once was an instant pk mud, that is was attracted people here, make a character, get good stats very quickly and level up, be level 50 in a day easy. As for eq well go hit a smob or two with a couple of channies and you had a full set.
These days you make a character get sub par eq, go exp for days and days and be prey to the elite who are level 50 in superb eq. This mud has turned into the ultimate elitist mud. Only the elite thrive, there are a few of you who never die and if on occasion you do are in good with the elitist on the other side and dont have to worry about eq.
I fear these words will fall upon deaf ears and things will remain the same as they are, I would truly like to see the pbase we once had back again but that wont happen until things have changed. The coding is now far superior than it once was, moves are balanced, most everything needing attention has been dealt with with the exception of productivity, if I cant be productive with my time then I will go do something else somewhere else where I can be productive.

.....Man Aj, I like you alot man, but this elitist crap is so not true.
Some of us players here have been pking in these same damn zones for years, in all sorts of shit sets and nice sets and shit sets and nice sets and in all combinations.
Actually, I'm not going to even argue my point. Not going to waste my time, it's obvious your not going to open yours or try another chance, only to be a drama queen.
All I can say is, I'm sorry if I ruined your time here, I had fun when I was on alts that you didn't know were me, and it was enjoyable seeing you here.
Really sorry you feel only way to compete is with nice eq, or nice something, or have elite friends, etc.
Well, gl with what your going to do, hopefully I'll see you back.
PS: I die all the time.
PS: Because I take too many well-educated risks.
PPPPS. To me, newb kits are the most fun.
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon, yah.

Vurek bro this post isnt directed at you, but you have to be willing to look at my poV as well. I play opposite hours most of you guys do so there is usually very few to not any players on. I cant adjust my play time because I work and go to school, so I play late. Thus when I go to reeq I have to hit soloable smobs, for abs and big wpns this suffices but for dodge it does not.
If you dont see anything wrong with a dodger running around in 150 def then ...

Re: This Mud
That is complete crap. I like you but come on, just because you didnt get your full set back you post this?
Level 50 is no different from lvl 30 besides a few pracs. Your trying to make an arguement out of something that is completely nonexistant. That is a Wotmud arguement, it has no base of truth here. I think everyone who has pked in the past 2 weeks has died in the past 2 weeks.
I think we all enjoyed that, but I dont know about everyone but the typical "slash and bash" all pk all the time wasnt always that great. We had fun, but I know everyone felt there was something missing.Aj wrote:This mud will never be a wotmud nor have their pbase, we have a few dedicated players who have put up with alot for a good while. Well, if you are referring to today: I was in newb eq and I was using daggers (which I am unpracced in). Vurek always is using crap sets. Dakeyras was in a set that he couldnt even block Akrabbim unbashed. You, however, got bashed 2/10. It took two people to break your defense every third round.Aj wrote:These days you make a character get sub par eq, go exp for days and days and be prey to the elite who are level 50 in superb eq. Yes, I dont think it will be long before people start playing again. I really think that when clans open, this mud will come back. Some people only pk for eq/qps, and when they have a nice set, they just sit back until the clans open up. As soon as clans do open up, these people will begin to pk and that will attract those people who always log on, ask "Any pk?", and then log off.Aj wrote:I fear these words will fall upon deaf ears and things will remain the same as they are, I would truly like to see the pbase we once had back again but that wont happen until things have changed. I see absolutely nothing wrong in running around in a 150 defense set.
With the fixes to defense, that is a very easily and nice pk set to pk in. Yes I said nice. All you have to do is add a light green chainmail shirt, some other crap combo items, and you can buff and flee and actually pk.
The highest I've gotten on any of my dodgers in past 2 weeks is 180, and that's with a silver shield and decent trinks and dodge.
Wasn't saying this was directed at me, but I'm directing this at you
You play at weird hours, I do too, I have a wide range I can play, and I have to try to adjust for others.
Another hint, if 150 def isn't enough(which is in my book), when there's noone on LS when you play(as you said), just run down to LS zones, kill the mobs for the decent dodge/combo, and your set.
Then pk when it comes, if it hopefully comes, and grab shit from the ppl you kill(if you want to), or just merely enjoy your time in a decent/crap set.
That's what I do, although I haven't been playing ds much, too many ppl on there when no humans on

And also, not to pick at you, but if you'd like me to mail you and we can talk through mails on why I don't consider sets to be different lvls of pk ability, that's fine.
I have the log of the destruction of your pretty nice set, and believe me, it would have happened just a little bit easier with a lower end set.
The best I can recommend, is to actually give a shit set a chance, respect it for it's potential that you can use it to, and try your best to pk effectively and smartly.
And also, just take a break till clans if you need to, or nudge the IMMs above for them to hurry up if you'd like, I know Chase would appreciate it

Vurek, chase don't take the forums so personal, so you guys like the way the mud is atm, hey thats cool but to some degrees I don't which is my right. This isn't about who is right and who is wrong, it's about personal opinions and what would be the best thing to do for the pbase as a whole.
I just don't see us attracting newbies who aren't going to be able to equip with decent gear and who will be prey to the old school pro's in nice gear, a rather hardcore learning curve I would say.
A good solution would be to put mid end trinks, dodge, abs, most wpns on soloable smob staggered throughout the map. Eq should be obtainable on a solo basis but take time to get with the exception of high end and rares.
I honestly don't see this mud gaining much more of a pbase, theres thousands of dead to semi dead muds out there, only thing we have going for us is we are a wotmud knock off, we have their players come over every once in a while. why do they come over? To check things out, but if everything here is the same as wot then why would they stay here? There needs to be enticement and we once had it, an easy leveling system, easy smobbing, and alot of fun pk.
The main problem which has been the problem forever, lack of productivity. What is there to do solo besides boring exp? This is an old topic and many good ideas were brought up on several occasions but rather than deal with the problem directly exp gain was lowered and eq was made damn hard to acquire. So in the end not only is there not anything to do (besides exp), I'm doing it in crap equipment.
Lastly, one thing I dont think you guys take into account is the different levels of skills, I've been here for a long time and still die tons, I know I'll never be an awesome pk'er but thats cool because the fun for me is in the pk. If I win less than I loose it's all good because at least I'm winning some, but everytime I loose if I have to spend hours if not days trying to reequip then I am not having the fun I once did and I will begin to reconsider some pk conditions (aka playing like a bitch), I used to not even think twice about taking insane chances but these days i have to consider the possibilities of loosing my set and the joys of reequiping, and pk without the insane risks is not fun pk imho.
I would like to see two options for pk and eq, option 1: grab and go, grab some crappy eq from an ez mob and run into the battle. Option 2: slowly prepare your kit, smobbing solo many smobs throughout the map until you have a nice kit that you are happy with. Of course option one would work best for absers and option 2 for dodge and combo.
you guys think the mud is great as is but I disagree, we have lost many players and continue to do so just at a slower rate now that we have so few left.
This mud has a limited pbase, the sooner that is acknowledge the sooner it can be dealt with appropriately.

I know the old days were fun, but after a while with no variety, everyone being at the same level, everyone wielding and wearing the same stuff...it really did make us a WoTMUD spinoff. Is that what we want? We soon had people complaining about balance issues. Well we've tried to fix as many of those as possible, and there are many left to address. We've tried to take a more serious look at things to become more of a serious mud, and not a WoTMUD reject spot.
Clans are comming as soon as possible (and should help out a bit with the re-equing with chests). However we know that putting in clans will create future problems, so we're looking to deal with those now instead of later.
I admit that there are many mud's out there with a limited playerbase. One reason why we do not have a big playerbase might simply be that we have not tried to advertise for any yet. Why market a product that hasn't reached it's full potential? There are certain things to be fixed or implemented before we want many newbies running around.
While we have a lower playerbase I will try tone things down somewhat and help increase a bit more eq into the system. Just realise that not everyone will be able to get full sets as easy as in the old days.

I'd just like to say, I like what I've seen in this topic for the problems and the point of views of players and an IMM.
It's really good to see stuff like this, really think we need more of it.
I would like to clarify, I really don't think I said somewhere in any of my posts that I like kinslayer for how it is right now.
Honestly, I still wish for the old Tulon days(couple months before it died). Eq was actually kind of balanced back then(of course could easily get really nice stuff, but some of it was harder to get etc., easy to get good weapons though, which was awesome, hell I can't remember exactly, I just remember it was great to go pk, have some fun, try to bash those insanely pimp sets that were very rare(talking crazy trinks) etc)
I wasn't too overjoyed about the previous Galnor days to begin with. It was the same kinslayer, yet there was the largest eq inflation possible. It wasn't very fun at all, as you would encounter every player in perfect sets, and if someone didn't have perfect, jthey felt like shit as you feel now Aj. And also, I had no intention of mastering or any of that, as I was a little annoyed that my near master from tulon days was just gone in one second, after alot of work put into it
Now we enter this 2nd Galnor phase, which is what I've seen the most like wotmud kinslayer has ever been since my stay here. Exp was an absolute bitch, such worthless killing of the exact same mobs in the exact same zones... It was an absolute huge bummer, I'm talking enormous bummer that practices were downed to 3 per lvl(i had to bitch for weeks to get more horse pracs, and even now i'm still a little puzzled at the balance of it) which is absolutely gruesome. I enjoyed in the older days when we got at least 4 pracs(troll) and 5 pracs as humans. You could play any type you wanted, and have a ton of fun. Get 99% shield parry/dodge, which I have yet to do with another skill on any character(thief best so far)
It was a huge letdown to me, kinda shocked me as I chose a 16 17 20 ranger, and I knew I was screwed in trying to be everything I desired. Sure that adds variety a bit, but really the fun aspect was destroyed, in what looked to me an attempt to merely make the mud harder(not more balanced, as abs still has 99% weapon/bash....) and more "elitist" and just plain badass, which I'll never agree with.
Practicing different setups were fun, I used to love being abs, then dying, then trying out combo, then dodge, etc etc.
And as you can see from Ravir's post, the first sentence says it all. I completely disagree with that statement for the end of Tulon days, but completely agree with the end of the first Galnor days.
That is exactly why I didn't enjoy the previous Galnor days as much, everyone was the same and it was completely stupid. But Tulon days it was so varied it was awesome. There would be little "fads" of switching to this eq and that, like a stupid popularity contest. But we all enjoyed it, there was a true idea of FUN aspect back then(and we had a much bigger playerbase than in previous wotmud days)
Next Ravir says people complained about balance issues, and there was issues with a mud that had 100% inflation of all eq.
Then you see the next sentence of "serious mud". Which is great, but my dreams were completely bashed as I had a shitty statted character of 16 17 20(i wanted high hps, the only true logic i can see form going ranger now) and then the pracs sucked. Now practices are based off of my STATS, so I even got shafted again, even after more practices were added! The irony, I'm worse off now 10x than before!
There were some great changes to combat system: bash changes, fleelag, etc.
There was a great fix to defense finnaly(after they go from one extreme to the other naturally
), although dodge needs to be looked at as you said earlier, we need middle dodge.
Several other completely awesome changes, but we are still more inclined to that "badass" mentality currently, which I can completely understand sucks for players, and I see your point Aj.
It ain't cool trying to play this game half the time when there are so many negatives.
I truly think alot of the "fun" was sucked out of it when the mud first came up, and I'm waiting, waiting for when(it's been years) the fun aspect will come back.
I hope IMMs will see that if we possibly merge or learn from our history, how to best fuse the fun aspect with this new "serious" atmosphere, to make a truly great mud.
I can talk days and days and days about balance, the mud's issues, etc, and if you still think I'm completely happy with kinslayer, or have been for the past year and half, your crazy
But i'll stick it out, and enjoy my stay here, as I appreciate all the IMMs work, even if it is utter torture sometimes

Yea, you post way too much Vurek. I skipped over 70% of your post material on this thread.
Anyway, I agree with you on how this mud needs more. Some people like the classic all out pk, but I want depth. I want clans that actually mean something, not some halfass thing where I just get pk bonuses. This mud has taken a turn for that type of thing, but along with it we lose the classic fun of everyone in full sets (which got boring).
Finally, I think IMMs should add mobs up north similar to those they have south (barbarian, random dodge mobs) which load good equipment on lower %. This would allow people to get their own sets, but would take a little time.

I never said I don't read them, I just find the same things said over and over again to be a bit old. Most things posted these days are about what is wrong, with an occasional suggestion on what one would view as an improvement. Anyways, just because things aren't changing now does not mean they won't be, as Ravir has hinted at already.
Never said they wouldn't change, they will change, am waiting.
If your skipping over 70% of my material, well that's fine Chase. It's obvious that if one of my own buddies doesn't read what I try to say about balance and other suggestions(i have 2-3 topics on discussions still with no answer or anything, been like that for 3+ months) then hardly anyone else does.
I appreciate you Nicotine for reading my post, I don't think I'll ever be able to fully express my point, as I try to not right 5k page essays on my point of view.
And I'm 90%+ more vocal than you indeed, but you and me have always seen very similar views(so help me out for now on!
)
And engel-morons are over there------>
I don't expect you to read the post, I expect you to be my meatshield in pk, it's what your personality serves!
I'm sorry I care about balance, and that I post my opinion, that's just me, I always try my best to consider all views, and be as open-minded as possible, but when noone reads, or doesn't care, it's worthless
I'll get enough ambition eventually to post some more balance issues and suggestions, but I haven't done so b/c I just don't see the point atm.
*edit-And the things IMM's save over and over again never get old either! They aren't the same thing over and over again! HMmMMmmmM. Interesting. Interesting how it works both ways! HmMmm. Weird. Typical. Pedestrian.

Im one of thee olden players and i loved those days, i was really really sad when i first logged on and i had to choose s*** stat's and then ever more so with the way exp is now. and i quit playing for a few weeks because of the fact that eq is so hard to get.
I dont think that we should go back to old kin (even tho was a blast) but what i do suggest is moderation. right now we are at the opposite end of the spectrum that old kin was at. we need to find a middle ground between the two.
1.Make exp easier.
2.put random stats back in the game but make it harder to get super stat's like kris used to have
3. down how hard smobs are, with our playerbase it is damn near impossible to hit doon etc.
4. imp clans asap
These are just my thought's on how to get this mud going.

I still stand with a joint statting system:
1)The current point choosing system
2)Optional self statting system, with the aforementioned reasons of making it harder to get nice stats, with a max number of stats(19 17 19 etc depending on class etc.) with nothing higher than 19, as that will give the "bonus" to the point choosing, they can get 20's.
But I remember Ravir saying that the superstat's wouldn't come back, but with % being based on str/dex now, stats are even MORE important.. I'd have been perfectly fine with a practice increase and non-effecting stat on pracs, or more pracs with the stat affecting, but nerp!
I've probably said this before, and restated it(100% sure on the statting sytem) so your welcome galnor! Mebbe if you dream it it might happen!!!!!!!
