Knowing the advantages of your class.

Post by Aj »

Figured I'd write a little on the subject of knowing the advantages of you class and their inherant weaknesses vs other classes and races in pk,
Also the Art of Blancing PK

abs bashers
when fighting other bashers the key to suceeding in pk is getting your bash off first, a skilled basher will spam bash rather than spam kill x then bash, but starting a disengaged bash vs a stabber could get you stabbed, vs a channie could get you blinded, air scythed, or fireballed if the bash fails. Once you have successfully bashed a basher you need to pay close attention to the timer so you can get your next bash started before your opponent, with my bad ping I usually cant rebash someone ive bashed so ill flee the room run a few rooms and make them move around and try to beat them to another disengaged bash.

People seem to not realize it take 89% notice to counter high hide, if you fighting a thief toggle notice on and hit k x a few times

89% notice 89% notice 89% notice remember this :P

When fighting using track vs a stabber, as the thief flees around and you track, if you notice his tracks going north, you go north and notice his tracks go back south take it for granted he reentered the last room you was in and started his stab timer on you, wait a few seconds for it to run out hit k x and go back in the room, always be wary of walking into a stab, when you track hit k x before you start the track timer then k x after the track timer has ended to be on the safe side.

thieves
your strength lies in stealth, thieves are not meant as melee characters, once you have been spotted your chances at a kill have dwindled considerably, mob usage comes into effect here. as a troll thief use mobs that agroe humans such as trees, trolls, cats bears, etc. hide around them wait for the human to enter and engage you, once the mob has engaged them flee out and come back starting you stab timer if possible. Or hide spam backstab and wait for them to enter and if they flee out of room your timer is still going and they may come back into the stab. This does not work vs channies as they can melee a mob and throw weaves at you, vs a channie you need to use mobs that will break their def such as blight patty, trees etc.

Another advantage troll theives have over humans is we are always on foot, when fighting a human you want them to use commands that will allow you a chance at getting a stab started. Commands such as track and dismount tend to work in a trolls favor, use areas with many exit rooms so they have to track alot, and also use noride rooms so they have to take the extra time of dismounting and remounting.

If you are fighting a human thief you can have a stab fight but very few human thieves will do such without calling for backup, the one advantage you have over a human thief is your moves, one trick I like to do; if the odds are against me is try to stab the horse the human has just dismounted or even melee it, when the human comes in to assist the horse you kick the human, this tends to piss humans off to no end. I say exploit the oppositions weakness to its fullest potential, very little is fair in this world so do what you have to to get the kill.

Channies
Are overpowered imho so I wont give any tips on how to play one.

The key to fun pk

The key to fun pk is to not totally rule your opposition, if your playing a channie vs a solo troll allow him to run to some mobs or his patty, if your a troll with one helper vs a human non channie, allow him to go to mobs such as trees, grouping should be used as a last resort in pk unless you are the underdog, the key is to always keep the balance without totally ruling the opposition, you want those your fighting to think they have a chance at suceededing and thus coming back for more.

My finaly advice is a pker who is afraid or unwilling to take chances is a player who either wont get many kills or wont have other pkers enthused about pking against them. Running into your home city at scratched is boring to all players and counter productive to pk.[/b]

Good point. When I spot players like these, I turn around and walk home. Usually rent and wait for someone else to log on to pk against. You don't lose exp by dying on this mud, so I don't see the problem with it.

A wiseman once said; Never real the origins of your secrets and powers. So..therefor I'll greedily store all my own stuff I've learned over the years. But, I'll give you all general advice: Don't pee into the wind. Change your underwear daily, etc..

Can I pee in the direction in which the wind is going?

So long as you make sure you don't pee on an electric fence...

Also, look before you squat. Don't wanna get bit in the ass by a rattlesnake when you're going to take a crap, y'know...

Abs vs abs is very mechanical and actually slightly tricky at the same time. It completely depends on the person you are fightin in most cases, as that affects pk no matter what class you are fighting/playing.

That tip makes perfect sense to spam bash, but sometimes, it is one of the dumbest things to do. If your fighting a solo basher, every time you spam bash, and your target enters and engages you, thats 1 round of dmg you lose.

Now, due to kinslayers terrible dmg of abs weapons at the current moment, this is nearly pointless advice. It would be smarter to spam bash rather and take a hit(small dmg) and get 2 rounds off.

But, once balance comes back into play, assuming weapons will be fragging full dodge....spamming bash is semi-stupid. Spamming for your target hits them that round instead of yourself, nearly making you(as an abser) a comboer. Yes, you just parried a hit. Sure you beat their spam, but you just saved yourself a hit while ensuing dmg, which (although kinslayer regen is insane) could pay off later.

Now after that first hit, you have 2 options- if you are spaming k xxxx and bash xxxx, if you hit them and bash starts at perfect timing, go for the bash(pulse war atm is shitty too, so this isn't recommended if you've been on for a while).

Otherwise, you can simply flee, and move around a bit, chill for a few seconds until you konw your targets timer has run out, run back to the room or room around it, engage and bash(wotmud tactic) and hopefully you will catch them off guard and win the bash.

Spam bashers is not a fun thing to fight against, it isn't fun to do myself either, gets very boring.

That was some simple logic when putting into play the abs vs abs, again you will learn in the first few rounds/seconds of pk the kind of person your fighting, assuming they stick to their code and don't mix it up(which makes it even easier to kill..:D)

In my experience, 86% notice works perfectly fine, I have never not noticed a hidden before, so I would suggest to save yourselves and extra prac and use it elseware(as some play types are hurt by this extra prac)

Completely good advice, don't reenter stabs, although everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

I always hit k xxx once after i track, and it usually catches a stabber/hidden which saves yourself some worry against reentering rooms. The last thing you want to do is make yourself immobile in a few rooms, or possible re-flee into that room that could get you stabbed.

With the current thief predicament, and with our ever friendly flee lag, or non-existant flee lag, it makes one wonder if the thief's only skill in pk is to spam at patties/mobs.

While that is a worthy tactic, it is also extremely boring for mainly all pkers on all sides.

The thief CAN melee an abser to dead, yes it is true. If you don't get bashed(current bash is messed up) you can certainly melee someone dead. Once your abser fouls up and decides to flee, it is your duty as a thief to get every round off of dmg you can against that abser. Every damn round counts(naturally for all chars, even channies, that tickle helps). If you are fast enough at chasing an abser, it is possible to kill a batt abser from blight to fd, and hell even in fd, or uno.

All his suggestions about mobs is great, do the mob thing if your for it.

Otherwise, if your fighting several pkers with a few pkers, it is always a good oppurtunity to have someone follow you, or you follow them, and proceed to melee the abser to death.

Naturally, that is small group pk, but a stabber with attack + a basher is practically a fade. So yes, thief's are and should be made good use of in melee.

I wouldn't ever recommend using kick when fighting a stabber for: 1. it ruins the pk, 2. they will leave

When stab vs stab, there is absolutely no point kicking, just run timers for hopefully you'll go against someone who stab wars, and his remark on how most of ls don't stab is accurately true, but some out there do try.

I would recommend playing ls stab, lots of dsers don't know how to stab war awesomely or don't spam correctly, easy peasy way to learn, also teaches you how to conserve your lovely shitty mvs. :P

Then switch to ds, and you can love that moving tons of rooms running timers(but remounting still kicks ass, just a pain to keep dismounting)

Lot's of good stuff in Aj's post, and I hope mine was helpful as well, if any questions, please ask.

I remember when i would kick way too much when i should of been going for a stab. I think i pissed vurek off one time(sorry vurek, was not trying to be an @$$) cuase i wouldnt stop kicking him, but i was kind of new at the time and didnt know how kick was used.

I know that kick lowers moves, but does it inturupt weaves? everytime i kick a channie i still get a ****en fireball to the face, but when im playing a channie i have had times where they interupted me with a kick. Is it how high of a percent your kick is or what?

actually kicking a channie will disrupt a fb 100% if I'm not mistaken

I recommend thieves using kick some to help your learning curve, I used it a bit when I came back a while back since I was so rusty but now I dont even bother to practice it as I've learned better tactics that balance pk rather than end it.

Kicking was used often by thieves to finish off crit dodgers and disrupt channelers. Whether that will still be an issue or not with the changes, no one knows...
