Dodge vs bash at the moment is a tender topic, with one change dodge rules, and the next change bash is godly. My main concern with it at this time is the dependancy we have upon the elusive top of the line bashing weapons. My argument goes as follows
1. I have yet to lay my hands on a shimmering axe, claymore, or poleaxe
2. once I do it will only be a matter of time before someone kills me and tucks it away on an alt I've never seen or heard of before, thus I will probably never see it again.
3. I will be once more fighting using a mediocre weapon against players such as akrabbim, etc that die very seldom if ever and always have top of the line equipment.
4. Hard work (smobbing) does not pay off as most top end eq is limited or loads on mobs which are impossible to kill such as agelmar, murash, and gaidin dude.
I suppose the question we should be asking is why is it necesary to limit good bashing weapons? My theory is the top of the line bashing weapons not only bash well but have insane damage, but not only that, a low dmg wpn with good bash would be dangerous to a dodger if bashed at a patty or gate with tons of mobs. A few mobs + bash damage multiplier = instant death for dodgers.
The main argument we hear all the time is dodge is worthless unless you have a nice set put together (which takes alot of time to acquire) yet an abs basher is less dependant on their abs than on their weapon, thus someone sporting 30% abs and a shim axe is going to destroy a pretty set of 100 db. I have an idea that will change everything here.
I believe ob should play a high factor in bash, so we implement ob trinkets for armor users. Now not only do dodgers have to slowly put their sets together but abs users as well. Let's say the average ob on your average weapon is 150, 150 should sit 70ish db down, 155 ob for 80ish db, 160 ob for 90 db, 165 ob for 100 db. I think you guys get the idea. The ob trinks could be 1 ob, 2 ob, 3 ob, a rare could be ob with a move bonus. so if we had ob trinks as rings, neckies, wristies, earrings and gave them each 1-3 ob (3 being the rare) we would see a max of 174 ob on your average weapon, if the average was 150.
The final result of the above idea, someone in a decent dodge set will be on even ground with someone in a decent abs set minus ob trinks. Whether you use dodge or abs you will have to slowly put your set together, and abs users wont have to worry about trying to lay their hands on top end bashing weapons such as the all elusive shimmering axe, claymore, or poleaxe.
Moving on to player dedication or lack there of!
We have seen players come and go, mostly going these days and not coming. I attribute this to two things.
1. Lack of consistancy, three player wipes (alot of players became disillusioned, their hard work was for naught or so they felt)
2. mastership and fadedom is a far reaching goal that many people dont consider worth the effort
How can we improve upon the game master yoda you ask!
Quite simple playersan, place goals wihin the players reach, 2000 qps to become a fade is a dream not many people are chasing these days, it is not tangible. My idea will encourage players to continue playing and quite possibly draw new players to the game.
mastership
500 qps: earns mob lead
750 qps: earns master weapon with 1 point to be placed
1000 qps: earns master weapon with 2 points to be placed
1250 qps: earns master weapon with 3 points to be placed
1500 qps: earns postures (if we are going to have them)
clanned trolls
fade
500 qps: earns fear
750 qps: earns fading
1000 qps: earns master weapon with 1 point to be placed
1250 qps: earns master weapon with 2 points to be placed
1500 qps: earns master weapon with 3 points to be placed
1750 qps: earns mob lead
2000 qps: earns postures (if we are going to have them)
clanned trolls
dreadlord (we will need dreadlords to counter channies)
500 qps: earn limited weaves
750 qps: earn top end weaves (such as haste)
1000 qps: earn mob lead
1250 qps: earn master weapon with 1 point to be placed
1500 qps: earn master weapon with 2 points to be placed
1750 qps: earn postures (if we are going to have them)
The most important bonus of implementing the above, have you guys considered what one fully bonused fade would do to our playerbase? it would take a minimum of two humans to take him down, and with our limited playerbase we are usually hard pressed to get one on one pk much less the numbers for a semi decent gank. So basically one fade would kill pk, but with limited bonuses at varying qp's the races would remain more balanced.
dodge vs bash balance, player dedication etc
