Thoughts on an eq wipe
Thoughts on an eq wipe
As a few players have pointed out, there is a serious problem with equipment inflation now. We realise that making equipment hard to come by isnÔÇÖt a solution as it isnÔÇÖt fun to run around in complete crap getting schooled by those who have the full sets. With a total restructuring of equipment we could add a lot more variety with weapon choices as well as a more diverse range of mid-end equipment.
To do such a thing would require a complete wipe. At the same time however we could implement a code change that would make object files more reliable. Smob loads would be rebalanced and updated for the new rage of equipment and possibly released with a new bunch of zones.
The Staff wants to know the opinions of the player base on such a complete wipe. We are open to ideas and suggestions but I do not want to see any flaming on this thread at all. Any posts made that are off topic or are a flame will be deleted. Repeat offenders will find their forum privileges removed.

imo we should have a test mud up for about a week. With a variety of equipment, of course youll need about 4 people on each side to do some smobs at the beginning then start playing with the mid-trinkets and wider varierty of weapons. keep a seperate post about how it does, how it works, if people like it, think its balance then i say lets do it

I'd agree with the idea of a testmud. I do have a bazillion alts and I would like to test the new eq out.
I really like the idea of using the testmud, would give ppl fun, but you would have certain "rounds or something" perhaps of just this type of eq vs that type, so that imms could see how players used the eq and how versatile they all were.
I like the idea alot, might miss some stuff though with the current system.
But, for instance, in the past 2 hours, I have gone through 4 crystal shields...2 i gave away...It's insane.

Just a suggestion (and it maybe irrellevant, I'm not familiar with your setup) - rather than have all objects governed by "percentage coms", have them come dynamically out of an object database, (and 'by type', so mobs with special attacks relying upon the weapontype can continue those)
Ie, the DB would be aware of the # already in the game and on the pfiles, would have a "max_allowed_in_world" and would load them on mobs depending on that. And, if "max_allowed_in_world" has been exceeded, then because they are "by type" (ie "thief_dagger"), it could load the next item down from what should have been loaded. Or you could make it really funky and allow alternatives to be set up by an imm in some OLC GUI.
But, you will have to deal with storage chars, as they always upset any attempt to rationalise eq #s. So, maybe if you really want to load some topend stuff but max_allowed_in_world has already been exceeded, have some periodic job that nukes topend stuff from chars that havn't logged in much or gained much exp over some specified period of time.
