Kinslayer mud is fast, it has great pkillers, the players look out for each other, and more important than anything it is great fun.
We could do perhaps with a few more players. With this in mind, individuals have been making various attempts to entice players to try this mud out. I would suggest that perhaps it may be worthwhile to co-ordinate these efforts and to mention certain things that may help in these endevours;
1. Increase in the Knowledge Base on the forums.
It's a difficult balance, as many people get a thrill out of working things out themseleves. The knoweledge base on the forums is now very good with maps and scripts for players (nice work Ereh especialy). However, it may be usefull to have a guide which focuses on new players - especialy players over from Wotmud - and shows hwo to use some of the specific features of this game.
Some of the features include basisc use of porting, how to buy horses, how to use hired mobs, how to get money, quick ways to level up, how to use dumps, and other unique features of this mud.
2. PK logs
Many people when they have 20-30 minutes will trawl through Wotmud and Wotmad looking at PK logs.
Please log everything and post more logs on here. Perhaps we could also select some of the best logs and post them on Wotmad, it may encourage people to try us out.
3. Friends
Unfortunately I have not played Wotmud for a long long time and have no alts there at all. But those who have please recomend. I think this is secondary to having something for people to look at on our forums to an extent, as people will see regular pk logs being put on as an indication of regular PK.

this mud doesn't have enough to entice a complete newbie. the days of people actually wanting to play muds are old.

What if we created a kind of 'Newbie Island' for new characters to go to after logging in for the first time? Instead of the inpersonal 'Name? Password? Sex?' thing, have it an actual mob who asks you the questions in a more RPish manner.
A mousy clerk is sitting here, hunched over a massive ledger.
A clerk says, 'I see you're new around here. I'll need some information from you to be added to the local census. Your name, please?'
#SHOW Give the clerk your name. Choose something unique and fitting with the Wheel of Time theme.
Ereh
A clerk says, 'Welcome, Ereh! Now I need a secret password that only you and I will know. This enhances your security. Wouldn't want anyone claiming to be you!'
#SHOW Create a password, preferably with numbers and letters, for logging in everytime you connect to Kinslayer.
zoneadmin2k7
A clerk asks, 'Would you mind repeating that so I know I have it right?'
zoneadmin2k7
A clerk says, 'Excellent! Next I need to mark in our books your gender. Male or Female?'
#SHOW Choose the gender that best suites your character. There are no right or wrong answers to this one.
male
A clerk says, 'And your race?'
#SHOW Are you a Human or a Trolloc? Do you fight for the Creator on the side of Light or for the Dark One and the forces of the Dark?
trolloc
A clerk says, 'Good.. good.. almost done now. I need you to note what class you are.'
#SHOW Choose from Warrior, Hunter, or Thief.
hunter
A clerk makes some small notes in his massive ledger, glances at you, then makes another note.
A clerk says, 'Well that went rather smoothly. Now you have the option of entering directly into our world or taking the guided tour. If you're new, I'd recommend the tour.'
#SHOW Type 'enter weave' to be sent to the Crossroads. From there you'll choose your destination within the game. To go on the guided tour, type 'take tour' and you'll be sent to a land designed for newcommers to walk you through the basics of KinslayerMUD.
enter weave
Get the idea? I think that would help a lot, and make the creating a new character process a lot simpler. To go along with this, I'd like to see a 'restat' command imped rather than having to use 'selfdelete' and go through it over and over again.
Also, I really think the ingame help files could use some work. Typing 'help' and seeing things like 'cast' and 'nosummon' and 'gsay' and 'clerics' and 'magic' and the like... That sort've throws me off and makes me look at this game as less than complete. Not a good image to have. Same thing goes for the lack of mob, item, and room descriptions that run rampant through the game.
Any suggestions or comments on the Newbie Island idea?

it takes a certain kind of nut to fall in love with muds... wotmud was the first i ever played and somehow hooked me, i don't know how... but i think it's more dependent on personality as opposed to the obvious outdated quality of muds

A modifications on Lightside could help players stay abit longer.
It's actualy alot easier stating on ds than ls at the moment for the following reasons:
1. In stating kit you get 2 torches. These last about an hour in total if you keep them in use throughout. This can be a real downer for new players who are stuck in the dark and don't know what to do.
2. You get no cash in the stating kit to buy lanterns or new torches.
3. There is a lack of low level mobs to kill for cash and lanterns. There is one in four kings but your average newbie wouldn't know where to find this.
4. There are several different types of deer - some harder to kill than others and some give better xp than others. We are taking about a large difference here, to the extent that e of caem isn't worth killing as those deers give hardly any xp and take alot longer to kill.
5. South of Lugard has mobs which sneak and agro and would kill someone under level 5 in one round - plus it has doesn't have enough mobs for newbies to kill.

i like the idea of this topic but i think what we need is a certain guild or clan whatever you call it, and post and annoucement that people with this word or whatever in their title can help you whenever you ask, i know what turns new players away the most is most peoples unwillingness to help and to just ignore them, why not over certain prizes for these 'guild members' that help newbies in this mud

I'm currently at work revamping the Help Files as well as levelling up a human so I can learn Light Side. I'll be spending some time over there to help teach the newbies that show up. Maybe a PRC (Player Run Clan) of dedicated Newbie Helpers or something might not be a bad idea.

My fault completely. I've been in the process of moving for the past month, with no internet access. I'll be working on it, however.
