I'm not that great at math but i was always taught 'BODMAS' brackets over division, multiplication, addition, subtraction....
48/2(9+3)
So brackets first:
9+3 = 12
Division next:
48/2 = 24
multiplication last:
24*12 = 288.
That is how i learned how to do it!!!! But people have done it like this:
48/2(9+3)

Also from a forums i've read someone did this:48/2(9 + 3) =
48/2(12) =
48/24 =

WHICH IS JUST FUCKING CONFUSING! somehow i highly doubt he does calc bc..its 2.
think of it like this 48/(2/(9+3)). Anything attached to parentheses already have an invisible parentheses around it. This is a true fact. You'll see it in any school textbook. Therefore it would be 48/24 = 2.
Another method to look at it is to make 2 = x and the whole expression equal to 288. x should equal to 2 when we solve for it if 288 is the right answer.
(48)/(x) * (12) = 288 ; x = 1/76
Therefore it cannot be right. 2 is the answer and it is not debatable.

I think people probably get it wrong because you rarely see the division operator written out like that.
Usually you see it like this:
In fact I can't even remember the last time I saw the division operator used like that. 4th grade maybe?
Just remember PEMDAS and all shall be well.

That calculus kid is stupid. 48/x * 12 = 288; x does not equal 1/76. Multiply by x so 576/288 = x = 2. Hopefully his calculus is better than his algebra.

Multiplication and Division take the same precedent, so you evaluate each as you come to it reading left to right. Also, (9+3)=12 not 11
