If everyone logs off and instantly rents when they see that no one is online then there isn't anyone on when the next person logs in. The cycle then perpetuates itself all day, unless by some freak accident two people log in at the same time. So instead of renting, go smob or exp or level a trade or even just put on an anti-idle trigger and sit in another window and check back every once in a while. You'll find it can help out greatly.

I put in the play times thread to gauge the activity levels of other players. You can use that to try to coordinate pk sessions or know a ball park time to find someone on the other side to fight against.

I'd post my play times but they're fairly random at the moment, weekends are defiantly out.
