Mining

I've mined on one of my chars for between 30-40 hours. His mining skill is at 56%. By contrast i've spent maybe 4 hours looking for herbs and my skill is at 95%.
I feel mining should be a tad easier to accumulate skill.
cheers,
J

Or herbalism should be harder. And all the other trades besides mining as well.

4 hours of looking around for herbs, doesn't take into account the run i make up to hold every time i log in (psst: seems to be the best herbs load there)
and the herbs i find in pk. However if it is changed, i just hit 99!

Four hours is nothing at all. That's less than a day of mudding. Trades are good and everything, but reaching Artisan level is far too easy for all trades except for mining. And reaching 99 now doesn't mean that if the difficulty is drastically changed your percentage level won't be adjusted accordingly.

So can you lose 99% or is it once you make it you are set with that character for the skill?

The percent you have could possibly change, yes.

So is mining broken or am I missing out on something obvious? I have just spent 3 1/2 hours mining, collected over 60+ ores with out a single increase im my mining skill. I also seemed to be spending an equal amount time either fighting the random mobs or regening moves. Not an exactly productive trade compared to the others I have tried.
*Edited number of ore. I was far to conseravtive on my intial claim. In my last hour, I counted 26 ore, all without an increase in skill.

I asked koradin about this on thursday and he said mining takes longer to level up because of the gain, mining earns you ore which you can sell or use to make weapons, 99% in mining is gonna be insane.

Well I think I will reset my trades then. There is no way im wasting my time on mining anymore. The rewards do not compare to the effort (read boredom) required.

mining should be harder because you can use triggers like no other and pretty much go afk. only thing you have to worry about is getting stabbed by ds. while when gathering herbs there is not really a way to set triggers and go afk

I have an event system setup so that I can watch movies w/o being interrupted, and even when I am not doing anything else I derive a weird pleasure from stunningly boring tasks... (I like it the way it is now!)

What percent in mining are you at Dimmu?
P.S. Trades are not supposed to be easy to level up. That would defeat the whole purpose of them: if it were easy to become well skilled in a trade then people could switch between trades without care.

if it was easy, everyone would do it...hair yeah

I got to 63% and stopped.....I was finding ores (and mobs) quite easily, just no progression after 4hrs. Either I'm broken or mining is.

Hey all, I'm back and would like to add something here that might help:
Gathering skills (such as herbalism, mining, fishing, and skinning) will be a bit easier to level than crafting skills (like mixing, tailoring, cooking and smithing) because when you gather items you don't gain as much as when you craft items.
That being said, trades over all will be very hard to level up because of the simple fact that once you're at 99%, you'll have access to all of the best items for that trade.
I will look again into downing % gains in skinning and herbalism, and I think mining is okay as is right now, although I'll look at it too.

So after 6 hrs I get an increase, than 3 minutes later another. This randomness scares and confuses me!
