I'd just like to say, I like what I've seen in this topic for the problems and the point of views of players and an IMM.
It's really good to see stuff like this, really think we need more of it.
I would like to clarify, I really don't think I said somewhere in any of my posts that I like kinslayer for how it is right now.
Honestly, I still wish for the old Tulon days(couple months before it died). Eq was actually kind of balanced back then(of course could easily get really nice stuff, but some of it was harder to get etc., easy to get good weapons though, which was awesome, hell I can't remember exactly, I just remember it was great to go pk, have some fun, try to bash those insanely pimp sets that were very rare(talking crazy trinks) etc)
I wasn't too overjoyed about the previous Galnor days to begin with. It was the same kinslayer, yet there was the largest eq inflation possible. It wasn't very fun at all, as you would encounter every player in perfect sets, and if someone didn't have perfect, jthey felt like shit as you feel now Aj. And also, I had no intention of mastering or any of that, as I was a little annoyed that my near master from tulon days was just gone in one second, after alot of work put into it
Now we enter this 2nd Galnor phase, which is what I've seen the most like wotmud kinslayer has ever been since my stay here. Exp was an absolute bitch, such worthless killing of the exact same mobs in the exact same zones... It was an absolute huge bummer, I'm talking enormous bummer that practices were downed to 3 per lvl(i had to bitch for weeks to get more horse pracs, and even now i'm still a little puzzled at the balance of it) which is absolutely gruesome. I enjoyed in the older days when we got at least 4 pracs(troll) and 5 pracs as humans. You could play any type you wanted, and have a ton of fun. Get 99% shield parry/dodge, which I have yet to do with another skill on any character(thief best so far)
It was a huge letdown to me, kinda shocked me as I chose a 16 17 20 ranger, and I knew I was screwed in trying to be everything I desired. Sure that adds variety a bit, but really the fun aspect was destroyed, in what looked to me an attempt to merely make the mud harder(not more balanced, as abs still has 99% weapon/bash....) and more "elitist" and just plain badass, which I'll never agree with.
Practicing different setups were fun, I used to love being abs, then dying, then trying out combo, then dodge, etc etc.
And as you can see from Ravir's post, the first sentence says it all. I completely disagree with that statement for the end of Tulon days, but completely agree with the end of the first Galnor days.
That is exactly why I didn't enjoy the previous Galnor days as much, everyone was the same and it was completely stupid. But Tulon days it was so varied it was awesome. There would be little "fads" of switching to this eq and that, like a stupid popularity contest. But we all enjoyed it, there was a true idea of FUN aspect back then(and we had a much bigger playerbase than in previous wotmud days)
Next Ravir says people complained about balance issues, and there was issues with a mud that had 100% inflation of all eq.
Then you see the next sentence of "serious mud". Which is great, but my dreams were completely bashed as I had a shitty statted character of 16 17 20(i wanted high hps, the only true logic i can see form going ranger now) and then the pracs sucked. Now practices are based off of my STATS, so I even got shafted again, even after more practices were added! The irony, I'm worse off now 10x than before!
There were some great changes to combat system: bash changes, fleelag, etc.
There was a great fix to defense finnaly(after they go from one extreme to the other naturally

), although dodge needs to be looked at as you said earlier, we need middle dodge.
Several other completely awesome changes, but we are still more inclined to that "badass" mentality currently, which I can completely understand sucks for players, and I see your point Aj.
It ain't cool trying to play this game half the time when there are so many negatives.
I truly think alot of the "fun" was sucked out of it when the mud first came up, and I'm waiting, waiting for when(it's been years) the fun aspect will come back.
I hope IMMs will see that if we possibly merge or learn from our history, how to best fuse the fun aspect with this new "serious" atmosphere, to make a truly great mud.
I can talk days and days and days about balance, the mud's issues, etc, and if you still think I'm completely happy with kinslayer, or have been for the past year and half, your crazy
But i'll stick it out, and enjoy my stay here, as I appreciate all the IMMs work, even if it is utter torture sometimes
