Ok, I'm curious to which stating system you guys prefer... personally I like the new system.
So post here with your opinions.

I like the old system. if you've ever tried to pk with a human ranger you might understand. when dodge is ok it's fine but when it's not it's really bad. 95 db is considered uber for a ranger and yet it is considered crappy for a rogue so they(the imms) have to make it so rogues can be bashed and it screws over rangers.

plus rogues and warriors aren't nearly effected by the new statting system since you can get what you want. if it were set up like i want it to be set up(rogues need 30 points to get str) it would be better that way.
this is what you need as a human ranger:
- good dex (18+ or else you will be sat down all the time)
- good str (to be able to bash decently plus to get good warrior practices)
- good int (to afford practices since human need ride practiced if they wnat to go bash)
so the one thing rangers get easily(con) is worthless because they have to put their points in all these other things. unless they wanted to give one of these vital things for more hp. not to mention one of the most important things(since it effects their own practices) is 15 points instead of 10 like, which imo, it(int) should be since it is like that for rogues and warriors.
a troll rogue makes a better dodge/basher(which is the only way you can go as a ranger except abs/bash since charge is not correctly implemented in the game yet) than a human ranger since a troll rogue doesn't have to practice ride doesn't get the malus on db for riding and can get stats like 18 20 15(which if a ranger wanted to get 18 18 xx it would be 18 18 14 not anywhere close to the overall of a rogue's)
so what i'm trying to say is the playability of a ranger would be greatly increased with a implementation of a wotmud style statting system.
this kind of statting system will also impair channelers. i think they realized that they needed to implement this when they figured out channeler would probably have to be something like 10 17 17 16 10 in this new statting system.

I am quite partial to the new system as most of my characters are not def driven. However when Channelers are imp'd I think we shall see how robust the new system is.

I personally dont mind the statting system as it is anymore. I used to think dodge rangers were fubared, but their stats arent bad (besides their pracs, which suck horribly). I have a dodge ranger that has 119 db. Now granted thats in a nice set, rangers arent that bad off. I just dont know whats gonna happen when charge gets imped, I know no ranger can pull off charge/bash/spears/dodge and still have the necessary ranger pracs to function.

rangers can get 20 con, that 20 con is always less hps than a 19 con warrior, that really should be looked into (or i get really bad rolls)

Warriors get a HP bonus, so it's ok.
Maybe rangers should get a prac bonus, to balance it out a bit more...

Yes! Ranger practice bonus!

or have Int be the Ranger's best stat, so Rangers can get 20 Int, and have Int play more of a role in how well you can practice. At the moment it isn't a big difference between 10 int and 19 int.

I cant suggest making int the 10 pnts per stat. I know I put nothing in intelligence atm because I cant go worse physical stats than 16 18 18, any lower and I may as well strap on armor because I wont have the health/defense to compete. A 13 15 10 18 15 (not sure if possible) ranger may be great practice wise, but I would never play it. I suggest making ride a hunter practice, and giving all hunters +2 int to 14 base int... How am I supposed to pull off dodge charge (only class really meant to play it) when I cant even practice it all to 90%?

I just think the all system overrall is way better.

it would greatly assist rangers if they could get just free int. start out at 14 int for example.
you couldn't make a decent ranger if you got 20 int you'd have to give up something else to do it. and that's just have to have decent practices like the other two classes? no.
what really angers me though is that int is 10 points per stat for thief and warrior but for ranger it's 15 points(the ones that really have a practice problem). wouldn't you think that since ranger skills take int it'd make it so rangers would be smart. it's kind of like making warriors spend 15 points for str and having thieves spent 10 points for it.

Maybe have int affect something besides pracs. More int could give a stab/charge/bash/whatever bonus. Just don't make higher int a requirement for landing these.

It is our intention to create a dual system, where you can either choose your stats, or put forth a bit of extra effort to obtain better stats(random statting). This way, you can still compete even if limited by time, or take it to the next level.
We're still working on it, though.

That sounds like a most excellent idea.

well might want to do it before school starts because we are losing a few people and if you don't give them a reason to play before they leave for school(or start school) it will end up doing nothing.
also i think frequent little implementations are much better than a huge package of things implemented at once because it looks like more is being done. if people come one month and see man wotmud statting has come in than they see that the next month channelers have come in than the next month after that charge has been fixed they will think more is being done. instead of just heaping people with new changes making the game seem too complicated and difficult to get to learn.
for example the clans being imped as well as zones being changed at the same time. i think the zones would have had a much better response from the players if they were a gradual thing instead of one day they log in and every pk zone is different.

Koradin's constant additions certainly help. I think he's the best thing that has happened to this game in awhile...

I agree with Trin and Lithium, Koradin's little yet frequent changes have had a huge impact on the mud. Valentin's stuff would of had a nice impact if the sucka hadn't of gone MIA yet again
I love the idea of a dual statting system, we get the best of both worlds!

Thanks for the compliments guys. Although I do have to give some credit to the big dogs like Narg/Galnor/Ravir and the rest of the staff. I would never have learned to script if I hadn't nagged them day and night with random questions and requests to implement new commands

A question out of curiosity, what about those who had to stat under current system. Do they get something to make up for it or restat?
Posted: Wed Aug 02, 2006 4:20 pm
by Trin
you can always delevel and restat it's not difficult to get back to level 30(or 50 if you want to put the effort into it)

What about claned people?

borderguards i know is allowing restatting i'm not sure about other clans. probably though. i've just realized something: i haven't played for like 2 months(for more than a hour or two randomly) waiting for the old statting to come back.
