Memories of Atkins

Kinda feel bad for comparing this guy to Atkins, but I find it kind of funny. I remember Atkins making some post where his name was "Rob" and his signature was "Jorah", who is obviously Atkins(Kind of like how I am Tulon, RIGHT?!), anyway, anyone who reads the WoTMUD(Burn me for saying those cursed bloody words!), should know who that guy is and what he's like. I was installing a sound driver, and found this forum thread buy some guy who was FREAKING out, and one word popped into my head:

Hi there,
I have just installed xp pro on my flat mates PC.
it was an upgrade from windows 98 (I had to format the hard disc).
XP seems to run fine ecept there is NO SOUND!!!
XP installed the default drivers and there are no conflicts, but
there i still no sound.
The media players (etc) all look like they are playing
but there is no sound.
I thought i might need the mother board sound drivers (see spec below)
and I found them on the VIA site that matched the VIA VT8235.
I installed them but there is still no sound.
Unfortunalty she doesnt own any discs or manual for the motherboard and I
have been unable to find it.
I thought then just to buy her a sound card, put it in, and installed drivers.
Again it all seemed to work fine, but when XP intro sound plays it keeps stuttering
and just repeats itself until i unistall the drivers. (really annoying like bling...bling....bling... etc)
Ideally I would like built in sound to work - the sound used to work fine when on windows 98.
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME IM DESPERATE - SHE THOUGHT THE UPGRADE WOULD BE DEAD EASY - AND NOW SHE KEEPS SAYING ' WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY PC!'
All I WANT IS THE SOUND TO WORK - ANY ONE GOT ANY IDEAS?

AMD ATHLON XP 1900
EPOK MOTHER BOARD (EP-8KMM3I)
(I have found the numbers VIA VT8235 and VIA 3058 written on the motherboard
and think they are related to the built in sound)
its 256 mb ram (think its SDRAM PC133)
8 gig hard disc
built in graphics
DVD player
and NO damn internet
not your DREAM MACHINE by any standards.
I DONT HAVE THE MANUAL OR THE DRIVERS OR A CLUE WHAT IM DONG
