The shadow's waiting

The Aes Sedai dismounted her horse in front of the towering gate, feeling the unease of her Warder through the bond.
"Do not fear, Anule. It is only an abandoned city."
Her warder snorted, and his uneasiness never faulted. Tying her horse to a low tree branch she picked up her skirts and walked through the mouth-like stone gate. Embracing the sweet nectar of the Source, she wove a ball of Air with strands of Fire inside, and a ball of light blossomed over her outstretched hand. Judging by the falling Sun, the light would be needed in less than an hour...
Moving deeper and deeper into the city, the Aes Sedai began to share her Warder's uneasiness. Three times they had investigated buildings where they thought someone was watching them, and three times they had found nothing but dust and rubble. The Warder walked with his hand on his sword, ready to spring to action. Night had decended upon the city, and the pair felt more and more eyes watching them...
Sitting on the edge of a large bronze fountain, the Aes Sedai sketched a basic layout of the city while her Warder circled around the large square. It was getting late, and she worried they might be spending the night on a rough patch of soil rather in a comfy bed.
"Anule, let's-"
The words choked in her throat. She clutched the pen and paper in tightly balled fist, and felt agonizing pain flooding through her bond, pain so intense she wanted to rip her hair out and tear her own flesh apart. Turning her head she saw her Warder, face twisted in torment as a white fog clung to his body and forced its way into his throat. In a moment, he was dead, and the Aes Sedai shreiked. Part of the fog moved away from the dead Warder, towards her, its new prey. She ran through the city, tears flooding down her face at the loss of her Warder, at the intense pain still throbbing in her head, at the fact that every corner she turned was more fog...
Shadar Logoth and Aridhol are now open. Feel free to explore, but be wary, for mashadar is looking for more souls to feast upon. You have been warned.
