Mobs can't land bashes

I noticed that mercenaries with very good bashing weapons could not land a bash on anything. I suspect this is the same for all mobs. Player bashing seems fine, so this might possible be because of mob BMI being messed up somehow? Most likely the weight is the problem, I've noticed that mob corpses that used to be too heavy to pick up can now be picked up.
