Give it a go Galnor, in theory it sounds like a good idea but realistically it will only clarify things for those who want clarity and it will definitely not stop the complaining of certain player types.

what it does is it doesn't give people like nicotine any outs. he's an afk killer, and if someone has an afk tag then he knows it for certain and can't possibly argue at all that the person might actually be there.

I would make the afk flag room dependant as to avoid people feeling safe to afk in key pk zones i.e. gap, blight, n fd, n fm. Even if it's an emergency a person should still have a few seconds to spare to run into a city.

why? if you're comfortable killing someone afk why does it matter to you if their flag is on in gap or in fd?

It's not about feeling comfortable killing someone afk but about feeling comfortable afking somewhere you specifically should not and avoiding the entire argument of "I was flagged afk, even though I was logged on my human and in keep or logged on my troll and in fd". These examples are extremes but still viable.

then kill them if you don't believe that they're afk or think that they shouldn't be afk in that area. sounds to me that people who will kill people afk in certain situations don't want the baggage of being known afk killers?

if someone is afk, it doesn't matter where they are. they are not able to respond to the game and as such provide no meaningful resistance in pk. the purpose of pk is to have a fight versus a real person, if you enjoyed killing shit that can't respond you'd just kill mobs all day.

I personally avoid purposely killing those afk but with an afk flag I can already see certain people abusing it and claming afk to avoid a death, to idle out of a certain situation. I am not saying everyone will have such intentions but a few will and when they are called on it and killed they will use the AFK Card to rally supporters to their cause.

if someone is running around pking and then just stops and hits the afk flag, i doubt anyone would care if said person got killed. however, if said person was afk sitting gap at healthy and someone came and killled them from full health, then yeah, afk killing.

I agree with your scenario Lamgwin, in the end it's a matter of perspective and whether a player cares enough to not ruin another players fun by using lame tactics or only cares about themselves.

There are pro's and con's to both side of this argument but ultimately this is a decision for the administrative team to make.

Unless things have changed, I can think of a large number of those rooms where you can be safe from stabs and have the no-quit flag.

Right now it takes what? 5 minutes of afk to void?

Any afk related flag should not kick into place in less than that amount of time. And if this flag prevents people from attacking you it will be heavily and easily abused by a lot of dbags who are just in it to be dbags.

Some of the people posting on this thread remind me of Ryalth on WoTmud who just tinfuls herself so when she is about to be killed she doesnt lose tps.

i'm amazed by how many of you can't read. the afk flag doesn't keep anyone from attacking you, it just takes away nicotine and other's crap argument of "i didn't know if you were really afk."

Going AFK is a choice, with associtated risks. Either rent and be safe, or drop link and hope xxx notices the linkless flag. Anything else is childish whining.

interesting, if the doorbell rings, or the phone rings, or something happens in the place that i'm living, that's a choice? funny definition you have for choice.

also, going ld doesn't allow you to see who kills you ld. at least this way i'll know who kills afk, and who doesn't.

keep coming with the fail arguments.

You know Dimmu was saying that leaving the computer to answer the door/phone is a choice, stop twisting people's words around.

having the doorbell ring, or the phone ring, or someone coming home that needs your attention is just as out of your control as having your internet die on you.

maybe he's arguing that a game is more important than anything that pops up in your life when you're playing?
