New to MUDs?

So What Is a MUD?

The unfortunate problem that most MUDs face is that many new players are completely unfamiliar with MUDs Simply put, a "MUD" is a Multi-User Dungeon, and is an online text-base game with real players roaming the world. Unfortunately, many become discouraged by the lack of graphics and the unfamiliar playing interface. However, once that barrier has been passed, the game becomes quite fun and mysterious in a way that graphical games cannot replicate.

What Does It Cost To Play?

Most MUDs are free of charge, meaning you may log in at any time without any account verifications. In most cases, the MUD is supported by the immortal staff, who pays for its hosting and spends time working on the game to implement new features and zones. Many may allow for donations from players to help support the game, however, most MUDs (KinslayerMUD included!) do not require any sort of payment.

Sounds Great! How Do I Begin Playing?

If you are able to read this, then chances are you need not install any software in order to log into the game. Most operating systems(Windows, Linux, etc...) come with a MUD client pre-installed called telnet. You can run telnet simply by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. If you find that you do not like the telnet interface, there are many other clients you may try. Simply visit our MUD Client Listing page. If you're new to MUDs, we also recommend that you visit the Quickguide to help walk you through some of the basics of the MUD.
